AFL 2023 Brownlow Predictor - Round 16

The first full round back after the byes saw some surprise team results and outstanding individual performances.

For the 2023 season, the Edge of the Crowd writers keep tabs on the best performances in every AFL match to predict who will win the Brownlow medal; Round Sixteen was no different.

The Lions have cemented their spot in the top four with a critical win over the Tigers, while Richmond is still struggling to stay in touch with the eight. Neale is an easy three-vote-getter after having 34 disposals and kicking two goals. Perhaps most important from Neale was his ten clearances.

Joe Daniher picks up a couple of votes after getting 19 touches and kicking five massive goals. The final vote goes to the 34 possession maker in Hugh McCluggage; five clearances didn't hurt his case either.

A rare draw over the weekend sees both sides sitting just outside the top eight as we get down to the pointy end. Errol Gulden had 26 disposals through the middle while getting five clearances and laying a massive nine tackles.

Luke Parker picked up 27 touches and kicked a goal while getting four clearances and four tackles. The final vote of the match goes to Miers, who had 27 touches and kicked a goal while assisting in three more scores.

The Crows have pushed themselves up the ladder once again with a great win over the cellar dwellers in North Melbourne. Dawson almost got the lead in the vote count after having 28 disposals and five clearances while assisting in three goals.

The big ruckman had a massive 52 hit outs while kicking a couple of goals and six clearances. Keays was key in the Crows' win after having 29 touches and kicking a couple of goals.

Western Bulldogs 102 d Fremantle 73

1. Jack Macare

The Dogs are currently in position for a home final and are likely to stay in that position with a comfortable run home to come. The Bont keeps moving up the leaderboard after a massive performance of 27 touches, a goal, and nine clearances for the Dogs.

Serong continues a good season at Fremantle with his 38 touches and ten clearances; he simply finds the ball more than anyone else. Macrae gets the final vote of the match after 24 touches, a goal and nine clearances while setting up his teammates on two occasions.

1. John Noble

The Pies got another big win over the weekend to continue their lead at the top of the ladder, while Stuart Dew's career seems to be on the line. Daicos extended his lead at the top this weekend after having 36 touches, seven clearances and a goal.

Noah Anderson was the best for the Suns, with 35 touches and seven clearances in a terrible performance as a team. The final vote is John Noble's after having 30 touches and kicking a goal of his own, gaining more than 500 metres.

A final siren win for the Power means their winning streak continues, while Essendon is just sneaking into the top eight after 16 rounds. Rozee continues to build a potential Brownlow season after having 23 touches and kicking three goals while being all over the field.

Parish was the best for Essendon; he had 29 touches with five clearances. Houston gets the final vote after kicking the winning goal and having 32 touches from the half-back line.

1. Charlie Curnow

The Hawks' good form for the year looks all gone now, while Carlton's finals hopes are still alive, albeit only just. Adam Cerra was the best on ground having 27 touches with a couple of goals while getting six midfield clearances.

McKay was a gun up forward, kicking two goals, setting up four more and having 19 touches. The final vote goes to the other key forward, Curnow kicked three goals of his own.

1. Tom Green

In the worst-looking game of the round, the Giants managed to get the late upset win over the Giants to keep themselves in finals contention. Jack Viney gets the three votes after breaking the 40 disposal barrier while getting seven clearances and gaining 602 metres.

Petracca kicked four behinds while having 34 touches with five clearances. The final vote, of course, goes to Tom Green, who got plenty of the ball, 38 touches, three clearances and a goal assist.

West Coast 77 def by St Kilda 85

3. Mitch Owens

2. Brad Crouch

1. Luke Shuey

While West Coast almost got it done, the Saints managed to get over the line to save themselves from embarrassment. Mitch Owens gets the three votes after having 14 disposals but, more importantly, four goals.

Brad Crouch gets two after 26 disposals, 17 tackles and seven clearances. The final vote goes to the West Coast captain, who finally had a good game with 28 touches, eight clearances, and a couple of goal assists.
