Group A
Switzerland is the only undefeated team in this group after a draw with Norway on Matchday Two. The Norwegians are facing an uphill battle to qualify as they languish at the bottom of the pool, with just a solitary point to their name.
It was a tough second gameday for co-host country New Zealand, suffereing a shock defeat to the Philippines. The result leaves New Zealand's hopes of making the knockout round hanging by a thread, with a fixture against group leaders Switzerland to come, while the debutant Philippines face an easier fixture on paper against a struggling Norway on the final matchday for the group.
Group B
The headline for this group is the result between Australia and Nigeria. A turgid performance by Tony Gustavvson’s charges leaves co-host nation Australia needing a victory against reigning Olympic gold medallist Canada to have any hopes of qualifying for the Round of 16.
The Super Falcons are best placed to make their way out of the group with a match against the winless Irish to close out the group. The Republic of Ireland, despite a pair of good showings, remains without a point and will be heading home after the group stage.
Group C
Spain and Japan have both already booked their spot in the Round of 16 with comfortable victories over Costa Rica and Zambia respectively in the second round of fixtures in Group C.
The group leaders face each other in a clash to determine who will top the group. And with the goals free flowing for both sides so far it promises to be one of the matches of the group stages. With just one goal separating the teams on goal difference, a draw will be enough for Spain to finish top.
The other fixture is a dead rubber between Costa Rica and Zambia with both sides looking to pick up their first-ever Women’s World Cup finals points.
Group D
England chalked up another 1-0 victory, this time over Denmark, on Matchday Two, while China kept its chances of qualifying alive with a victory over Haiti by the same scoreline.
Denmark will almost certainly bank three points when the side take on Haiti, and England will need at least a point against China in Adelaide when the two teams face each other on the final matchday for the group.
Although England hasn’t been convincing at this tournament, Bev Priestman's side is still in the box seat to make it out of the group stage, striving to add World Champions to the team's CV, to go along with a European Champions crown.
Golden Boot
Group E
Matchday Two of Group E featured one of the most anticipated fixtures of the group stage when the USA tackled the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2019 Final. Despite dominating the play, the Stars and Stripes had to claw their way back to achieve a 1-1 draw. It leaves debutants Portugal with an outside chance of making the knockout phase.
Portugal has that outside chance by virtue of its 2-0 victory over Vietnam. It was one-way traffic in that particular fixture with Portugal amassing over two-thirds of possession and having an incredible 29 shots on goal compared to Vietnam’s paltry effort of five.
Vietnam is headed home after its fixture with the Netherlands, while the USA will be looking for maximum points from its final group-stage match against Portugal. Failure to at least draw in the fixture will see the reigning World Champions headed home early.
Group F
France’s victory over Brazil, coupled with Jamaica’s first-ever Women’s World Cup victory over Panama on the second matchday has left Brazil needing a victory over Jamaica to prevent the unthinkable scenario of the purveyors of jogo bonito heading home before the knockout rounds begin.
The Reggae Girlz will be buoyed not only by recording their first victory ever but by the returning Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw returning after serving a one-game suspension for picking up two yellow cards in the group opener against Les Bleues.
Panama is heading home and will be playing for pride as the side try to throw a spanner in the works for a strong-looking world number five-ranked France.

Group G
After a comeback victory was required on the first matchday against South Africa, Sweden stamped its authority on this group with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Italy on Matchday Two.
The victory leaves Sweden sitting pretty at the top of the group with a fixture against Argentina to come to close out its group stage fixtures. The smart money is on Swedes to comfortably take care of the Argentines and finish the group stage with a perfect record.
South Africa threw away another lead against Argentina on Matchday Two. Remarkably, South Africa still has an opportunity to qualify for the group stage if Desiree Ellis' side can find a way to hold on to a lead against Italy on Matchday Three in an encounter that essentially is a knockout fixture.
For the Italians, if they can manage a draw against Banyana Banyana they will stamp their pass to the Round of 16.
Group H
Group H was the final group to complete its Matchday Two fixtures, and it kicked off with a historic victory for Morocco. Morocco picked up its first-ever World Cup finals victory over South Korea, keeping alive a slim hope for knockout phase quaification and rounding out a sensational last 12 months for the country's footballing stocks, following the men’s national team making it to the semi-final of the Men's World Cup.
In the final Matchday Two clash, Germany and Colombia did battle in front of a raucous crowd at Sydney Football Stadium. With both teams looking to stamp their ticket to the knockout phase, it was a physical affair. In an entertaining battle that saw some unbelievable football, it was Colombia got over the top and defeated Germany 2-1; the first time the Germans have lost a group stage fixture in more than 20 years.
With Colombia all but qualified for the knockout phase, Nelson Abadía's side will take on Morocco in the final group-stage match, while Germany must defeat South Korea to keep its Women's World Cup dreams alive.
